What is Defensive Driver Training?
Defensive driving teaches on road advanced driving skills to improve your drivers awareness and observation skills and so reduce their driver risk level. This training is provided by DSA Approved Fleet Driver Training Instructors and is available for car and van drivers.
Training Adapted to Meet Your Needs!
The training can be adapted to suit your budget or requirements. The options are either a 1:1 or 2:1 training ratio over a full day or half day and the content can be adapted to your requirements.
The standard defensive driver training format is below:
1/ The Importance of Vehicle Safety Checks
First, our instructor will check all driver and vehicle documentation is up to date and correct. Next the trainer will demonstrate how to carry out daily vehicle safety checks and discuss the importance of ensuring vehicles are safe before starting a journey.
3/ The Driver Initial On Road Assessment
This part of the course allows instructor to assess your driver's habits and spot any potential risk areas. At the end of this session the instructor will discuss both his practical assessment and the detailed online assessment report to establish which areas to concentrate on during the main part of the training.
4/ Learning Defensive Driving Skills
The main part of the training involves learning defensive driving skills. Drivers learn
techniques which encourage them to control the position and speed of their vehicle whilst adapting to road
and traffic conditions.
5/ Encouraging Fuel Efficient Driving Techniques
Your staff will be encouraged to drive in a more fuel efficient way with
more mechanical sympathy to the vehicle. For training which focuses more in this area see Eco-Safe Courses
6/ The Written Driving Assessment
A written report, based on the participant's performance and including
risk areas and recommendations for further training, is produced at the
end of the session.
